Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and Cape buffalo — the Big Five are among the most sought-after animals to encounter on an African safari. While some are widespread, others, such as rhino, are dwindling in number and often require local know-how to find (along with a pinch of good luck).

There are only a few areas in Africa where you have a chance of seeing all five animals on one trip, and each one offers a different safari experience. Our safari specialists discuss the options and the best ways to see the Big Five during your safari.
